Jim and Charlie Ann Syprett, Volunteers and Patients, Say Thanks with Multiple Gifts

Jim and Charlie SyprettJim and Charlie Ann Syprett, two retired attorneys, make no bones about how they feel about the hospital: “There is no other organization that serves as many people in our community or is as well run,” says Charlie Ann. “The physician expertise, state-of-the-art technology and equipment is so obvious, and the spirit of working together is so obvious—from the young man who pushes you down the hall to the nurses, doctors and hospital leaders. They have been there for me, my family and my friends, and they are there for all the people in this community who need care.”

That is why the Sypretts are giving back beyond their annual giving and have committed to a legacy gift through Jim’s living trust; a gift making SMH the beneficiary of an IRA; and an IRA rollover gift from this year’s required distribution.

“The staff at the Healthcare Foundation explained that a direct IRA rollover gift is not counted as taxable income but still counts as our required minimum distribution,” says Charlie Ann. She also explained that Jim chose to give through a trust because “most of Jim’s assets are in real estate holdings, and those won’t be sold until he dies.”

The Sypretts relationship with SMH has spanned decades. Charlie Ann began volunteering at Sarasota Memorial more than 20 years ago, after her parents and sister died of cancer and Jim beat it. She helped organize National Cancer Survivor’s Day and 5K Run and served on the committee for the Key to the Cure women’s cancer event. She and Jim have also delivered holiday gifts to all cancer patients for the last 20 years and Jim served on the board of the Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation for ten years, including two as chair.

“Making a gift to the Healthcare Foundation not only benefits you, it helps ensure that our friends and family continue to have excellent healthcare well into the future.” —Jim Syprett
