Richard Brown, M.D., is medical director at the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute at Sarasota Memorial. Recently, he and his wife, Pam, made a bequest to Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation in their will.

Richard and Pam came to Florida more than 30 years ago from New York, a place they still love and visit regularly. From the very beginning, Richard recognized the elevated level of patient care at Sarasota Memorial. Over the years, as the health system expanded, so did his appreciation for its leadership and vision.

“I was impressed with the hospital 30 years ago, and I still am,” Richard says. “I’ve seen it grow with the community and consistently strive for healthcare excellence. I appreciate being a part of that.”

The decision to make a bequest was a promise from the couple to help ensure SMH can continue its mission and provide the kind of care that has made it one of the top health systems in the United States.

“We want to make sure that continues,” Richard says. “Community support is so important in achieving that—and why we chose to make a bequest and join the Healthcare Foundation’s Legacy Society. Hopefully, our gift will also inspire others to do the same. As residents of Sarasota, we can all strengthen healthcare for our community.”
